A leading aerospace supplier is looking for a Business Unit Sales Manager for a dual leadership role.
Role Summary
The Business Unit Sales Manager is a dual-focus leadership role responsible for driving revenue through the strategic sale of metal products and related services, while simultaneously managing the operational lifecycle of sales and procurement. This individual needs to have a basic understanding of the technical aspects of metals production, specialty metals specifications, and basic blueprint analysis while overseeing a dedicated sales team and managing vendor relationships for raw material sourcing. We are looking for a candidate who thrives in a fast‑paced, highly technical environment and builds strong relationships across OEMs, MROs, and tiered suppliers. The Business Unit Sales Manager owns the raw material business unit profit and loss, guides a high‑performing sales team, and helps shape our market strategy in a rapidly evolving industry.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Technical Sales
- Consultative Selling: Engage with management and purchasing representatives, engineers, and architects at commercial and industrial establishments to demonstrate the value and technical feasibility of MetalMart BU products.
- Technical Estimation: Review blueprints, plans, and technical documentation to develop accurate cost estimates and project production increases for clients.
- Process Optimization: Propose changes in equipment, materials, or processes to help clients reduce costs and improve their sales cycles.
- Contract Management: Negotiate and finalize sales contracts for products and services
- Annual Budget: Develop and execute annual sales plans, forecasts, and territory strategies
Sourcing & Operations
- Automation: Drive automation and process changes to improve productivity
- Procurement: Oversee the sourcing and negotiation of raw materials and fabrication services; create and manage Purchase Orders (POs) with vendors. This includes one-off orders and negotiating long-term agreements.
- Market Intelligence: Obtain and document information regarding new material sourcing opportunities and technical problem-solving.
- Staff Oversight: Manage the sales staff’s order entry and change order processes for both sales and purchase orders to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervises all functions within the Sales department.
- Responsible for the professional development, performance management, and daily workflow of the sales team.
Qualifications
- Education: Five+ years of related industry experience/training; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to interpret technical data, product specifications, and customer requirements
- Communication: Exceptional ability to write reports and procedure manuals, and to present technical information effectively to managers, clients, and the public. Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship‑building skills
- Mathematical Proficiency: Strong ability to calculate figures such as discounts, commissions, proportions, area, circumference, and volume. Proficiency in basic algebra and geometry is required.
- Reasoning: Proven ability to solve practical problems and manage variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Travel: Regular travel is required to meet with clients and vendors.
