Superintendent – Healthcare Construction
Responsible for leading all on-site construction activities for healthcare projects, ensuring execution aligns with project schedules, safety requirements, and stringent quality standards. This role serves as the primary on-site leader, coordinating between project teams, subcontractors, and healthcare stakeholders in active, patient-care environments.
The ideal candidate brings experience managing complex renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and phased work within occupied healthcare facilities, with a strong focus on infection control, life safety, and minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and enforce all on-site safety protocols, with heightened focus on patient, staff, and visitor safety
- Implement and manage Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols and containment procedures
- Coordinate construction activities in occupied, operational healthcare environments with minimal disruption
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, including life safety and interim life safety measures (ILSM)
- Maintain strict quality standards across all scopes, with emphasis on critical systems and finishes
- Serve as the primary on-site leader for subcontractors, vendors, and field staff
- Manage daily site operations, including detailed documentation of activities, site conditions, and constraints
- Oversee punch list and closeout processes in coordination with owners, architects, and facility teams
- Partner with the Project Manager to develop and maintain detailed project schedules, including phasing and shutdowns
- Coordinate and manage MEP-intensive scopes, including tie-ins, shutdowns, and commissioning support
- Ensure proper sequencing of work in sensitive environments, including after-hours and weekend work
- Build and maintain strong relationships with hospital staff, facility managers, and subcontractors
- Proactively identify conflicts and constraints, implementing solutions to maintain schedule and safety
- Manage site logistics including temporary barriers, negative air systems, and infection control measures
- Identify and track long-lead healthcare equipment and materials
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- Equivalent field experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
- 5+ years of experience with a commercial general contractor, with healthcare project experience strongly preferred
- Proven experience working in occupied healthcare facilities
- Experience with renovations, phased projects, and fast-paced environments required
- Strong understanding of MEP systems and coordination in critical environments
- Previous Superintendent or project lead experience preferred
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Procore or similar construction management platforms
- Bluebeam and document control tools
- OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Familiarity with ICRA, ILSM, and healthcare compliance standards preferred
