Our client is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer in Austin, TX to lead the integration, deployment, and lifecycle management of industrial instrumentation, electrical, and control systems in a highly safety-critical environment.
Responsibilities:
- Define functional requirements and performance expectations for PLCs, HMIs, remote I/O, motor controllers, and safety devices
- Support vendor selection and review deliverables for technical adequacy and compliance
- Review and validate PLC logic and HMI designs to ensure systems are modular, testable, and aligned with safety and operational requirements
- Integrate electrical, instrumentation, and automation components into cohesive and interoperable control system architectures Identify and implement automation improvements to enhance reliability and operational efficiency
- Select and specify field instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level) based on accuracy and environmental requirements
- Provide technical oversight for control panels, low-voltage power distribution, grounding, and signal interfaces
- Troubleshoot complex electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues during operations Ensure systems meet safety requirements for nuclear facilities and maintain configuration control and documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with industrial electrical, instrumentation, and control systems Experience with PLC-based systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), including testing and troubleshooting
- Strong understanding of industrial electronics, instrumentation, and low-voltage power systems
- Experience working with vendors, integrators, and field teams in commissioning or operational environments
- Experience in oil & gas, renewable energy, chemical processing, or other safety-critical industries
