A fast-growing aerospace and robotics company is seeking a Reliability Test Engineer to establish and lead reliability testing for a new generation of high-performance VTOL unmanned aircraft systems used in defense and mission-critical applications.

This is a hands-on, foundational role; you’ll be the first dedicated reliability hire and play a key part in shaping the testing infrastructure, strategy, and team that ensures the company’s aircraft perform flawlessly in the harshest real-world environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute reliability, validation, and environmental test plans across aircraft subsystems and components.
  • Design and build custom test fixtures, jigs, and automation systems for mechanical, thermal, and lifecycle testing.
  • Conduct vibration, shock, thermal cycling, fatigue, ingress (IP), and stress testing for rugged electro-mechanical systems.
  • Build and automate data acquisition systems using LabVIEW or Python.
  • Apply statistical methods (DOE, regression, Weibull, capability analysis) to extract insights and drive design decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to improve test coverage and reliability design.
  • Help define long-term reliability processes, templates, and infrastructure — with a clear path to grow into a leadership role as the function scales.

What We’re Looking For

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or related engineering field.
  • 5+ years in reliability, mechanical test, or product validation for electro-mechanical systems.
  • Proven hands-on experience designing and building test setups, fixtures, and DAQ systems.
  • Ability to develop automation scripts in LabVIEW and/or Python (not just operate prebuilt ones).
  • Experience with environmental testing (thermal, vibration, ingress, fatigue).
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, DO-160, or similar aerospace/defense standards preferred.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills — able to operate independently and cross-functionally.
