Chief Estimator – Commercial Drywall (Division 9)

A union commercial drywall contractor is seeking a Chief Estimator to lead all estimating efforts and work directly with company leadership to drive project pipeline and business growth.

This is a high-impact role within a small, tight-knit team, offering direct collaboration with the President and full ownership of the estimating function. The ideal candidate will bring both technical estimating expertise and a strong sales mindset, with the ability to build relationships and help secure new work.

This position is based in Orange County, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all estimating and bid efforts for commercial drywall projects
  • Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop accurate and competitive estimates
  • Utilize On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and QuickBid to prepare detailed estimates
  • Oversee bid strategy, pricing, and submission processes
  • Work directly with the President to help shape estimating direction and company growth strategy
  • Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, clients, and industry partners
  • Attend client meetings, industry events, and lunch & learns to strengthen partnerships
  • Support business development efforts, including client outreach and relationship management
  • Track bid results and adjust strategies to improve win rates

 

Requirements

  • 5+ years of estimating experience with a commercial drywall contractor
  • Experience estimating projects up to $10M
  • Proficiency with On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and QuickBid
  • Strong understanding of Division 9 scopes, including drywall and metal framing
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proven ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Sales-oriented mindset with strong relationship-building skills
  • Comfortable meeting clients in person, including entertaining and networking outside of work hours
  • Experience working in a union construction environment
  • Motivated to take ownership in a leadership role within a smaller company

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 base

Bonus: Performance-based bonus (previous year bonus up to $150,000)
