Senior Licensing Engineer – Nuclear Energy – Remote
An innovative advanced energy technology organization is seeking a Senior Licensing Engineer to support the development and execution of regulatory strategies for next-generation reactor systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong experience navigating DOE and NRC licensing frameworks within highly technical, safety-critical environments.
The Senior Licensing Engineer will work cross-functionally with reactor design, safety analysis, and systems engineering teams to develop licensing pathways, regulatory deliverables, and compliance strategies supporting advanced technology deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead interpretation and application of DOE and NRC regulatory requirements for advanced reactor development programs.
- Develop licensing strategies, regulatory execution plans, and compliance documentation to support reactor authorization and approval activities.
- Collaborate with engineering, safety analysis, and systems teams to align technical design activities with licensing and regulatory expectations.
- Prepare and coordinate licensing deliverables including safety analysis documentation, emergency preparedness materials, technical reports, and regulatory correspondence.
- Support NRC and DOE engagements including audits, pre-application meetings, RAIs, and technical briefings.
- Translate accident analysis, source term evaluations, and reactor safety data into defensible regulatory and emergency planning strategies.
- Drive risk-informed and performance-based approaches to licensing and emergency preparedness activities.
- Maintain configuration-controlled licensing documentation, compliance tracking tools, and regulatory action items.
- Support strategic planning activities related to reactor licensing, regulatory risk, and project execution timelines.
Required / Preferred Experience
- 8+ years of experience in nuclear licensing, reactor safety analysis, emergency preparedness, or regulatory affairs preferred.
- Strong knowledge of NRC and/or DOE regulatory frameworks including 10 CFR Parts 50, 52, 100, and related guidance.
- Experience supporting advanced reactor technologies, safety analysis programs, or first-of-a-kind nuclear projects preferred.
- Hands-on experience preparing licensing documentation, safety analyses, emergency planning deliverables, or regulatory submissions.
- Background in probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), accident consequence analysis, or emergency preparedness strategies is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting NRC audits, RAIs, licensing reviews, or regulator engagement activities preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Systems Engineering, Health Physics, or related technical field.
- Strong technical writing, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory documentation systems, configuration management tools, and compliance tracking platforms.
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, highly technical, and evolving regulatory environments.
- US Citizenship required.
