Our client, a stealth startup that shipped over 100,000 drones last year, has recently kicked off new projects and is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their Board Design team, working across hardware and aircraft design.
As the company scales its drone hardware from prototypes to high-volume production, they need a Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer who thrives on hands-on board design. You’ll own schematics, PCB layout, and design-for-manufacture, ensuring complex boards are built right the first time and scale smoothly into production. This role emphasizes depth of execution — designing and laying out boards, leading bring-up in the lab, and acting as the primary technical interface with contract manufacturers.
You’ll also assess feasibility of early concepts, provide realistic timelines, and evaluate suppliers and components from datasheet review through hands-on testing, collaborating daily with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing engineers to integrate electronics into tightly constrained aircraft.
Responsibilities
- Board Design: Lead schematic capture and PCB layout for complex boards (SoMs, cameras, radios, high-speed interfaces, power systems)
- Concept Feasibility: Evaluate early design concepts for technical feasibility and provide realistic effort and timeline estimates
- Supplier & Component Evaluation: Screen and select suppliers/components, from datasheet analysis through hands-on evaluation and bring-up
- Design for Manufacture: Apply DFM/DFX principles to ensure boards are manufacturable, reliable, and cost-effective at volume
- Contract Manufacturer Interface: Partner directly with CMs to review builds, catch issues early, and maintain quality
- Prototype to Production: Own the EE side of EVT/DVT/PVT cycles, ensuring designs scale predictably into mass production
- Hands-On Debug: Lead lab bring-up and validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power analysis tools
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical engineers on packaging, connectors, and thermal constraints
