Mechanical Engineer – Biosensing Wearables
About the role
Our client is a biosensing wearable startup growing its team, and is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop wearable hardware. You’ll take products through the full development cycle, from CAD and prototyping through to assembly, debug, and manufacturing.
You’ll design mechanical systems in SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or similar CAD tools, and run tolerance stack analysis to make sure parts fit and function reliably. Wearables bring particular challenges. Devices have to be comfortable against the skin for long periods while protecting sensitive electronics and keeping sensors in consistent contact. That makes materials a central part of the role. Soft systems and wearable electronics commonly use materials such as silicones, TPUs, and textiles, and skin-contact materials are often evaluated for biocompatibility under ISO 10993.
Hands-on work is a big part of the job. You’ll build and assemble prototypes, debug issues, and refine designs through each build phase, typically EVT, DVT, and PVT. Wearable products are usually also put through durability and reliability testing, such as drop testing, sweat and water ingress testing to IP ratings, and long-term wear trials.
Where relevant, you’ll also integrate sensors, including optical, biosignal, or motion sensors, and work with contract manufacturers (CMs) or joint design manufacturers (JDMs) on processes such as injection molding, overmolding, and soft goods production.
Main responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems for biosensing wearable products
- Create CAD models and run tolerance stack analysis
- Build, assemble, and debug prototypes through the full product cycle
- Select and apply materials for soft systems and wearable electronics
- Support sensor integration within wearable devices
- Work with manufacturing partners to take designs into production
Requirements
- 4-8 years of mechanical engineering experience in consumer electronics, wearables, or similar products
- Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or equivalent) and tolerance stack analysis
- Hands-on prototyping, assembly, and debug experience through at least one full product cycle
- Strong materials science background in soft systems/wearable electronics
Nice to have:
- VR/AR headset or wearable device experience
- Sensor integration experience (optical, biosignal, or motion sensing), especially with biometric or physiological sensors
- Injection molding, soft goods, overmolding, thermal management, and CM/JDM experience
This role suits a mechanical engineer who has taken a wearable or consumer electronics product through a full cycle and wants to work on biosensing hardware. If that sounds like you, apply below.
