Director of Commissioning – Power Generation & Energy Storage
Location: Remote – United States or Canada / Full-time
About the role
Our client is a growing, privately held power systems engineering consultancy. It’s expanding its capabilities across power generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, and grid infrastructure, and is hiring a Director of Commissioning to establish, lead, and grow its commissioning practice across the United States.
This role combines hands-on engineering with strategic leadership. You’ll stay technically involved in commissioning and testing of grid-connected generation facilities across conventional generation, solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). At the same time, you’ll build the practice, develop a team, and help shape the company’s growth.
Commissioning work in this space centers on proving that facilities meet utility interconnection requirements and ISO/RTO processes before and after they connect to the grid. That typically includes grid-performance testing, protection and control system checkout, and model validation work under standards such as NERC MOD-025, MOD-026, and MOD-027, along with IEEE 2800 for inverter-based resources. When issues come up, you’ll troubleshoot using test results, SCADA and telemetry data, engineering drawings, and system documentation.
The organization is technically driven and values autonomy, mentorship, and high-quality project delivery. Travel is determined by project and client needs.
