About the role
Our client is a space robotics company that’s growing following recent success. It’s hiring an Electrical Engineer to own the end-to-end design and development of complex PCB assemblies. The hardware supports robotics, aerospace, defense, autonomous systems, and other high-reliability applications, so the standard for quality and reliability is high.
You’ll take PCB designs all the way from schematic capture and layout through fabrication, assembly, bring-up, and validation, using Altium Designer. Work of this kind typically involves designing to IPC standards and accounting for signal and power integrity, design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA), and thermal performance. You’ll then debug and validate boards in the lab with equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supplies.
Every design involves trade-offs. You’ll balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, thermal, packaging, cost, and schedule, and make sound engineering calls in an environment where requirements evolve. You’ll work closely with mechanical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and systems teams, supporting hardware integration, testing, root cause analysis, and ongoing design improvements.
The organization is looking for a hands-on engineer who’s comfortable with significant ownership and working alongside a highly collaborative team.
Main responsibilities
- Own PCB designs from schematic capture and layout through fabrication, assembly, bring-up, and validation
- Design complex PCB assemblies using Altium Designer
- Debug and troubleshoot PCBAs using standard lab equipment
- Make design trade-offs across performance, reliability, manufacturability, thermal, packaging, cost, and schedule
- Work closely with mechanical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and systems teams
- Support hardware integration, testing, root cause analysis, and design improvements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 3-5+ years in electrical hardware development for robotics, aerospace, defense, automotive, medical devices, drones/UAS, industrial equipment, or other complex hardware
- 1+ year of full-time, in-house experience at an early-stage hardware startup
- Strong hands-on PCB design experience using Altium Designer
- Experience taking complex PCBAs through the full design, fabrication, assembly, bring-up, and test lifecycle
- Comfortable working with evolving requirements and significant hands-on ownership
- U.S. citizenship, required by government regulations as a prerequisite for clearance eligibility
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. An active clearance isn’t required to apply, but candidates with a current Secret or Top Secret clearance are encouraged to apply
