About the role

Our client is hiring a technically strong Project Manager to lead complex product development programs involving embedded software, firmware, FPGA, and hardware integration. This is a hands-on role. You’ll work directly with engineering teams, understand the technical dependencies, drive accountability, and deliver programs from requirements through integration, validation, and production.

You’ll lead end-to-end technical programs across software, firmware, FPGA, hardware, and systems engineering, owning schedules, milestones, resources, risks, dependencies, and critical paths. FPGA programs typically follow a workflow from RTL design in VHDL or Verilog, through simulation, synthesis, place and route, and timing closure, to hardware bring-up. Understanding where those stages can slip, and how they affect firmware and hardware schedules, is central to keeping programs on track.

You’ll drive execution across engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers. That means leading program reviews, design reviews, and status meetings, managing requirements and scope changes, and coordinating hardware builds, system integration, testing, validation, and production readiness. In high-reliability sectors, requirements are often managed in dedicated tools such as DOORS or Jama Connect alongside project tools like Jira and Microsoft Project.

Clear communication is a big part of the role. You’ll identify and resolve technical and schedule risks, remove roadblocks, and keep leadership informed on program health, risks, and delivery status.

Main responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end technical programs across software, firmware, FPGA, hardware, and systems engineering
  • Own schedules, milestones, resources, risks, dependencies, and critical paths
  • Drive cross-functional execution and accountability across engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers
  • Identify and resolve technical and schedule risks, and remove execution roadblocks
  • Lead program reviews, status meetings, design reviews, and executive updates
  • Manage requirements, scope changes, issues, and competing priorities
  • Coordinate hardware builds, system integration, testing, validation, and production readiness
  • Communicate program health, risks, and delivery status to leadership
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of technical project/program management experience in product development
  • Strong technical background in embedded software/firmware, FPGA, electrical engineering, or systems engineering
  • Experience managing the full product development lifecycle from requirements through deployment/production
  • Understanding of embedded systems and hardware/software integration
  • Familiarity with FPGA development workflows such as Xilinx/Vivado or Intel/Quartus
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams and drive execution in a matrixed environment
  • Experience with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid development methodologies
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and leadership skills

Nice to have:

  • PMP or equivalent certification
  • Experience with aerospace, defense, industrial, medical, or other high-reliability products
  • Systems engineering and requirements management experience
  • Hardware build, lab integration, validation, NPI, or manufacturing experience
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar tools

This role suits a technical program manager with a firmware or FPGA background who wants to own complex programs from requirements through to production. If that sounds like you, apply below.
