Hardware Project Manager – VR Headset (Neurotech/Wearables)
About the role

Our client is a venture-backed, early-stage hardware and software startup building a VR headset platform with integrated biosensing, including EEG, PPG, eye tracking, and related physiological sensors. It’s hiring a Hardware Project Manager to drive execution across mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, validation, operations, and manufacturing as the product moves through EVT, DVT, and PVT into production ramp.

You’ll own integrated program execution across internal teams and supplier and contract manufacturer (CM) partners. That means building and maintaining schedules, dependency maps, risk registers, and issue trackers, and leading build readiness at each phase from prototype through PVT. In hardware new product introduction (NPI), this typically also involves managing BOM changes and engineering change orders (ECOs), coordinating build plans and material availability, and tracking program status in tools such as Jira or Smartsheet.

Integrating biosensors into a head-worn device creates challenges that cut across disciplines, including signal quality, EMI/EMC, connectors, thermal performance, comfort, and manufacturability. You’ll drive cross-functional resolution of these issues, and work with suppliers and CMs on DFM/DFA/DFT, tooling, and yield as the product heads toward production.

This isn’t a role for simply tracking a calendar. The organization is looking for someone who understands technical tradeoffs well enough to challenge assumptions and push issues to closure, and who can turn complex technical status into clear updates for leadership and cross-functional teams.

Main responsibilities
  • Own integrated program execution across hardware, firmware, software, and supplier/CM partners
  • Build and maintain schedules, dependency maps, risk registers, and issue trackers
  • Lead build readiness across Proto, EVT, DVT, and PVT phases
  • Drive cross-functional resolution of integration issues, including signal quality, EMI/EMC, connectors, thermal, comfort, and manufacturability
  • Coordinate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on DFM/DFA/DFT, tooling, and yield
  • Translate technical status into clear updates for leadership and cross-functional teams
Requirements
  • 5-10+ years in hardware or technical program/project management, product development, or a related engineering role
  • Experience through at least one full product cycle, from prototype to production
  • Understanding of technical tradeoffs strong enough to challenge assumptions and drive closure

Nice to have:

  • Experience with VR/AR headsets, wearables, biosignal devices, or compact consumer electronics

This role suits a hardware program leader who has taken a product from prototype to production and wants to do it again on a VR headset with integrated biosensing. If that sounds like you, apply below.
