Lead Engineer – Advanced Nuclear
Location: Texas
About the role
Our client is an advanced nuclear energy organization in Texas. It’s hiring a Lead Engineer to provide senior technical leadership and oversight across reactor design, licensing, construction, and engineering activities. This role suits an experienced engineer with a background in nuclear, mechanical, chemical, or systems engineering who has worked in highly regulated environments.
You’ll act as a senior technical resource and independent reviewer, examining engineering calculations, designs, specifications, contractor submittals, and testing documentation. Your job is to make sure systems meet safety, regulatory, performance, constructability, and operability requirements. In the US, advanced reactor work of this kind typically involves NRC licensing under 10 CFR, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III for nuclear components, and quality assurance programs built on ASME NQA-1.
Quality and compliance run throughout the role. You’ll support QA programs, inspections, audits, readiness reviews, ASME certifications, and licensing activities. You’ll also keep clear records of technical decisions, design changes, engineering evaluations, and risk assessments.
You’ll coordinate technical work across engineering, regulatory, project management, contractors, and other stakeholders, identifying technical risks and leading efforts to resolve engineering and project issues. You’ll also help guide engineering priorities and project execution. Some proposal and grant development experience is useful too, as advanced nuclear organizations often pursue funding through programs such as those run by the US Department of Energy.
