About the role

Our client designs and manufactures advanced RF, antenna, and related hardware for aerospace, defense, space, and other high-performance applications. It’s hiring a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a small mechanical engineering team while staying closely involved in technical work.

This role combines people leadership with direct ownership of ruggedized hardware design. You’ll handle resource planning, prioritization, mentoring, and performance management for the team. At the same time, you’ll lead mechanical execution across new product development, sustaining engineering, and continuous improvement, taking designs from concept through CAD, analysis, drawings, design reviews, qualification, and production release.

Much of the work centers on compact mechanical packaging for complex electronic and RF products, including housings, enclosures, mounting features, and interfaces. Packaging of this kind typically has to balance structural integrity, thermal management, sealing, and EMI shielding in tight spaces, with analysis commonly supported by FEA tools. You’ll drive DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, engineering changes, root cause investigations, and corrective actions to keep products robust and manufacturable.

You’ll also lead environmental qualification and verification testing to standards such as MIL-STD-810 and DO-160, covering vibration, shock, thermal, and other robustness requirements. The role is highly cross-functional, working with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, Product, Sales, and customers on requirements, feasibility, and technical issues.

Main responsibilities
  • Lead a small mechanical engineering team, balancing hands-on technical leadership with resource planning, prioritization, mentoring, and performance management
  • Own mechanical engineering execution across new product development, sustaining engineering, and continuous improvement
  • Lead the design of ruggedized hardware and mechanical components from concept through CAD, analysis, drawings, design reviews, qualification, and production release
  • Develop compact mechanical packaging, housings, enclosures, mounting features, interfaces, and related hardware for complex electronic/RF products
  • Drive DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, engineering changes, root cause investigations, corrective actions, and product and process improvements
  • Lead environmental qualification and verification testing, including vibration, shock, thermal, and other robustness requirements
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, Product, Sales, and customers on requirements, feasibility, technical issues, and new product development
Requirements
  • 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD for mechanical design
  • Experience designing ruggedized aerospace/defense hardware
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Experience supporting products from concept through qualification and production
  • Familiarity with aerospace/defense environmental and robustness standards, including MIL-STD-810 and DO-160
  • Experience with environmental testing such as vibration, shock, thermal, or related qualification testing
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined under ITAR (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or protected person under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3))

Nice to have:

  • Leadership or mentoring experience
  • Creo experience
  • Experience with RF, avionics, electronics, sensors, antennas, or similar compact electromechanical products
The offer
  • Full-time role
  • On-site in Los Angeles County, CA
  • People leadership combined with hands-on ownership of ruggedized hardware design

This role suits a mechanical engineer who’s ready to lead a team without stepping away from design work, and who knows ruggedized aerospace and defense hardware well. If that sounds like you, apply below.
