About the role
Lumicity is building a network of engineers and scientists with experience in Photonic Crystal Surface-Emitting Laser (PCSEL) technology. This is a global talent initiative covering current and future opportunities across the semiconductor laser and photonics market, rather than a single vacancy.
We’re interested in hearing from people at every stage of their career, from PhD and postdoctoral researchers to experienced industry engineers and scientists and senior technical leaders. Relevant backgrounds include PCSELs, photonic crystal lasers, bound states in the continuum (BIC) lasers, surface-emitting semiconductor lasers, III-V photonics, and closely related photonic crystal technologies.
Work in this area typically spans the full device stack. That includes photonic crystal and band-edge mode design, epitaxial growth of GaAs- or InP-based structures by MOCVD or MBE, nanofabrication techniques such as electron-beam lithography and regrowth, and characterization of output power, beam quality, and spectral behavior. PCSELs are attracting growing interest for their potential to deliver high-brightness, single-mode output, with applications in areas such as LiDAR, sensing, and materials processing.
You might be working in industry, academia, a research institute, a national laboratory, or a commercial R&D setting. Opportunities vary by technical focus, seniority, company, and location, and candidates from North America, Europe, Asia, and other regions are encouraged to apply.
Main responsibilities
Responsibilities will depend on the individual opportunity, but may include:
- Research, design, and development of PCSELs or related photonic crystal laser technologies
- Epitaxial growth, device fabrication, and process development for III-V photonic devices
- Device characterization, testing, and performance analysis
- Taking laser technologies from research toward commercial products
Requirements
- Experience with PCSELs, photonic crystal lasers, BIC lasers, surface-emitting semiconductor lasers, III-V photonics, or closely related photonic crystal technologies
- Background in research, engineering, or development within industry, academia, research institutes, national laboratories, or commercial R&D
