Senior Licensing Engineer – Nuclear Energy – Remote

An innovative advanced energy technology organization is seeking a Senior Licensing Engineer to support the development and execution of regulatory strategies for next-generation reactor systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong experience navigating DOE and NRC licensing frameworks within highly technical, safety-critical environments.

The Senior Licensing Engineer will work cross-functionally with reactor design, safety analysis, and systems engineering teams to develop licensing pathways, regulatory deliverables, and compliance strategies supporting advanced technology deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead interpretation and application of DOE and NRC regulatory requirements for advanced reactor development programs.
  • Develop licensing strategies, regulatory execution plans, and compliance documentation to support reactor authorization and approval activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, safety analysis, and systems teams to align technical design activities with licensing and regulatory expectations.
  • Prepare and coordinate licensing deliverables including safety analysis documentation, emergency preparedness materials, technical reports, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Support NRC and DOE engagements including audits, pre-application meetings, RAIs, and technical briefings.
  • Translate accident analysis, source term evaluations, and reactor safety data into defensible regulatory and emergency planning strategies.
  • Drive risk-informed and performance-based approaches to licensing and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Maintain configuration-controlled licensing documentation, compliance tracking tools, and regulatory action items.
  • Support strategic planning activities related to reactor licensing, regulatory risk, and project execution timelines.

Required / Preferred Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in nuclear licensing, reactor safety analysis, emergency preparedness, or regulatory affairs preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of NRC and/or DOE regulatory frameworks including 10 CFR Parts 50, 52, 100, and related guidance.
  • Experience supporting advanced reactor technologies, safety analysis programs, or first-of-a-kind nuclear projects preferred.
  • Hands-on experience preparing licensing documentation, safety analyses, emergency planning deliverables, or regulatory submissions.
  • Background in probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), accident consequence analysis, or emergency preparedness strategies is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting NRC audits, RAIs, licensing reviews, or regulator engagement activities preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Systems Engineering, Health Physics, or related technical field.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Familiarity with regulatory documentation systems, configuration management tools, and compliance tracking platforms.
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, highly technical, and evolving regulatory environments.
  • US Citizenship required.
