About the role
Our client is hiring a Senior Nuclear Engineer to support the development, testing, and implementation of engineering software applications for the commercial nuclear industry. The role combines reactor engineering expertise with software troubleshooting, technical support, and close collaboration with engineering and development teams.
You’ll apply your knowledge of reactor physics, core monitoring, reactivity management, and plant operations to make sure the software reflects how reactors are actually run. With a focus on boiling water reactors (BWRs), that typically means understanding core monitoring and thermal limits such as MCPR, LHGR, and MAPLHGR, as well as fuel management and core design considerations across operating cycles.
Much of the work happens alongside software developers. You’ll troubleshoot technical issues, suggest application improvements, and support integration, validation, and implementation. Software used in nuclear applications is generally developed and validated under strict quality assurance requirements, such as 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and ASME NQA-1, so attention to rigor and documentation is essential.
The role is also customer-facing. You’ll produce technical documentation, deliver training, and provide application support, while keeping up to date with nuclear industry standards and NRC regulatory requirements.
Main responsibilities

Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in the commercial nuclear industry
- Experience with BWRs (boiling water reactors)
- Background in reactor engineering, core physics, fuel management, or nuclear plant operations
- Familiarity with nuclear technical specifications and NRC regulations
- Experience with engineering software applications and technical troubleshooting
- Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
Nice to have:
- Experience with a U.S. nuclear utility
- Experience with reactor engineering simulation tools
- Experience working in Linux and Windows environments
