Location: Fremont, CA / On-site
About the role
Our client is an advanced manufacturing technology company hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of industrial capital equipment. This is a technical leadership role focused on complex electromechanical systems, precision mechanisms, automation, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
You’ll drive mechanical system development from concept through production. That means defining mechanical architecture, designing complex mechanical, electromechanical, and pneumatic systems, and carrying out GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and design analysis, including FEA, CFD, and thermal analysis. Precision capital equipment of this kind typically involves motion systems, linear stages, bearings and flexures, and careful attention to stiffness, thermal stability, and repeatability. Equipment for industries such as semiconductor manufacturing is often also designed to safety guidelines like SEMI S2.
The role is hands-on through integration and test. You’ll lead system integration, validation, testing, troubleshooting, and root cause investigations, and drive ongoing improvements in performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost. You’ll own engineering documentation, including SolidWorks CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
You’ll work closely with Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Process, and Quality Engineering teams throughout development. As a staff-level engineer, you’ll also mentor other engineers, lead technical reviews, and manage projects from concept through production.
Main responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex mechanical, electromechanical, and pneumatic systems for advanced capital equipment
- Define mechanical architecture and perform GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and design analyses
- Lead system integration, validation, testing, troubleshooting, and root cause investigations
- Drive continuous improvements in product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost
- Own engineering documentation, including CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and specifications
- Collaborate with Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Process, and Quality Engineering teams throughout product development
- Mentor engineers, lead technical reviews, and manage projects from concept through production
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience developing industrial capital equipment
- Experience in semiconductor, automation, robotics, precision manufacturing, CNC, biomedical, advanced process equipment, or similar industries
- Strong expertise in precision mechanical design, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing documentation
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, and experience with FEA, CFD, and thermal analysis
- Hands-on experience building, integrating, testing, and validating complex electromechanical systems
- Strong systems-level thinking, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Nice to have:
- SolidWorks PDM experience
- Experience with precision manufacturing equipment or complex industrial machinery
- Familiarity with FMEA and engineering risk analysis
